Preguntas Frecuentes

  • Never grease the bolt , always remove all grease residues before installing the J.Costa variator.
  • Never remove the washers that come with the original variator.
  • Tighten the crankshaft nut to the torque specification recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, always using a torque wrench and never a pneumatic gun.
  • With the Honda 125/150 , always install the 150cc injection belt
  • The belt always has to be the original , or alternatively the J.Costa.
  • Always use the original or JCosta rear pulley , spring, and clutch
  • If the kit contains a bolt, it must replace the original; otherwise, the original should be installed.
  • If the kit contains a washer, it must be installed between the bell and the crankshaft.

It is essential that the variator has proper maintenance to ensure.

The body of the variator, mounted in an official J.Costa workshop, and with proper maintenance has a two-year warranty . The other components of the variator, namely the bolt, bushing, bell, and weights , are considered consumables and should be replaced at the end of their life.

To avoid breakdowns, we recommend always installing the variator in a  authorized workshop or distributor  to ensure a proper assembly of it.

  • It is recommended that with each oil change inspection , the variator should also be checked for the masses, bushing , and bolt, as well as inspecting the belt.
  • It is necessary to change the weights when the user feels that the engine is revving at high RPMs and not pushing.
  • If the play between the bolt and the central bushing is greater than 0.2mm, the bushing must be replaced for the proper functioning of the variator.

Depending on the type of driving and the physical conditions (weight or temperature), the consumables may have their durability affected in different ways.

Consult the maintenance recommendations

  • Greater acceleration
  • Greater resources
  • Higher top speed
  • Greater recovery
  • More power to the wheel
  •  Less vibrations.

The design of the bell and how the masses that slide over it allow us to modify the transmission ratio or gears of our motorcycle:

  • We have a shorter first gear at low RPMs (better acceleration).
  • We have a longer sixth gear when the variator is fully open (pulley closed).
  •  The wheel power increases at any RPM, especially in the low and mid-range, allowing for great accelerations. This happens because we are able to keep the engine always in the maximum torque range.

With the traditional variator, you can hear the typical ringing of the rollers hitting the ramp. With the J.Costa Variator, the engine becomes more pleasant, smoother, and quieter.

  •  The absence of internal friction in the J.Costa Variator allows for better gas feel and a better response when compared to the traditional variator.
  •  Since there is no physical contact between the bell and the variator, it allows the pulley to react immediately when opening or closing the gas control.
  •  In the traditional variator, the movement of the bell is mechanically guided, which results in greater friction and negatively affects the system's response.
  •  Because the J.Costa Variator is the only variator on the market that allows you to increase performance across the entire power range of the engine.
  •  With the traditional system, if you need more acceleration, you have to reduce the weight of the rollers. This means that you always need more engine revolutions to start moving, and you lose top speed.
  •  With the J.Costa Variator, you will always have better acceleration without depending on the throttle grip opening.
  •  With the J.Costa Variator, you never lose top speed.

On the Yamaha T-Max, before loosening the variator nut, the crankcase cover must be removed. Once the cover has been removed, loosen the nut and replace the original variator with the J.Costa. Place the spacer and tighten the nut to 160Nm, locking the variator with the Yamaha tool or the JCosta tool. Reinstall the crankcase cover to complete the process..

Will the engine suffer if performance is increased?

No, because we do not modify the engine at all; we simply are able to transmit power to the wheels better. In any case, all engines have ignition cut-off and/or fuel injection cut-off that protects them in case of excessive RPM. For this case, we have a ceramic additive that, when placed in the engine and transmission oil pan, reduces friction, increasing the smoothness of the engine and decreasing wear.

Can I install the variator myself?

No, it is always advisable to have the variator installed by a specialized workshop, as it is essential to respect the torque specifications recommended by the engine manufacturer.
